Happy 2002! This is the first newsletter of the New Year and we at AutomationDirect are excited about all of the new products and product lines that are on the horizon for 2002. Keep an eye out for our new product offerings with the launch of our new catalog in a few months.
If you didn't see the October/November issue of Control Design magazine, you missed seeing AutomationDirect top the charts for Reader's Choice in service! We scored a 4.8 out of 5.0 for service and support, the best of any technology supplier in the survey. Be on the lookout for our March ads in some of the industry trade publications. In them, we will highlight this "Reader's Choice" achievement and introduce a cool new "smiley guy".

Question of the month
|ON THE LIGHTER SIDE|
Non-stock enclosures and encoders
Many encoders and enclosure products are now available for purchase as "non-stock" items, meaning they are not available for next-day delivery and may require delivery times of up to 10 days for enclosures and up to six weeks for encoders. Over 900 stock and non-stock Hubbell-Wiegmann enclosures and accessories are now available through AutomationDirect.
Non-stock encoders and enclosures are designated with a non-stock icon in our online store. Click on each specific product in the store for more information concerning expected delivery time.
AC photo sensors
Now offered are several new 18 mm non-metal photoelectric sensors. These new round sensors are AC-powered with 20-253 VAC. They are available in diffuse, polarized retroreflective and through-beam models. Cable or quick-disconnect versions are also available. The new photoelectric sensors have an IP67 washdown rating and are CE-approved. Prices start at $33.
Version 2.0 EZTouch Programming Software
Version 2.0 EZTouch Programming Software is now offered for the EZTouch line of operator touch panels. The software features new objects, including multi-state indicator, bitmap button, multi-state bitmap, and increment/decrement value. All objects now have a "display frame" option, and bitmap objects can be sized on the programming screen. Bitmap objects also allow for the import of Windows Metafile and Enhanced Metafile graphic formats in addition to bitmap files. For both meter objects and bar graph objects, a scaling option and floating point support have been added. Project configuration improvements and additions include alarm, message, and tag databases, a screen zoom feature, and a draw frame feature. Other new features include the addition of the Project Screen Explorer view in the programming window, and offline accessibility of the Panel menu. The new software also offers support for slim bezel EZTouch models (with FDA-approved materials), and includes added support for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Plus and Remote I/O. The new software is still priced at $109.
New Ziplinks modules and cables
Several new Ziplink modules and cables are now shipping. New communication adapters include the DN-15TB and DN-25TB. DN-15TB is priced at $64 and offers fast and convenient screw terminal connections to D2-250 CPUs, and DN-25-TB, priced at $58, connects to D2-350/450 CPUs. Compatible cables (part numbers ZL-DN15TB-CBL, ZL-DN25TB-CBL) are also now available.
Also offered is a 32-point Ziplink LED module (ZL-CM32L524). Priced at $150, the module offers 32 LEDs, 2-28 VDC, and 40-pole IDC.

New slim bezel EZTouch panels
In addition to the current line of EZTouch panels, slim bezel versions of the 6" models are now available. Part numbers for new slim models are EZ-S6M-FS (mono) and EZ-S6C-FS (color full feature). The panels are priced at $569 for the mono version and $869 for the color version.
Analog modules for DL05 line
Now available for the DL05 line of products is a 2-channel in/2-channel out combination analog input module (F0-2AD2DA-2) and a 4-channel in/2-channel out combination analog input module (F0-4AD2DA-2). Both modules have an input range of 0-5 VDC 0-10 VDC (jumper selectable) and 12-bit resolution. The F0-2AD2DA-2 is priced at $149 and the F0-4AD2DA-2 is priced at $209.
New discrete modules for DL205 and Terminator I/O lines
Three DL205 discrete modules are now available, including an 8-point DC output sourcing module for $48, a 32-point DC 5-15 VDC input module, and a 32-point DC output sourcing module. Both 32-point modules are priced at $102. For the Terminator I/O line, an 8-point DC output sourcing module is available for $60.
LookoutDirect Version 4.5
New features in the Version 4.5 software include distributed alarming for viewing and acknowledgement of alarms from anywhere on the network, distributed data logging to save and retrieve data anywhere on the network, and browse-and-select networking for connecting multiple LookoutDirect stations within a production facility or remote locations. The development package is priced at $1,295 and includes the software on CD-ROM, user manuals, a development/run-time license, and I/O drivers.
WinPLCs to come preloaded with Think and Do Live! and Studio
The WinPLC now comes preloaded with either Think and Do Live! or Think and Do Studio PC-based control software. In order to introduce these products, current WinPLC part numbers H2-WPLC1-TD and H2-WPLC2-TD have been discontinued and the new part numbers are as follows:

CAD drawings for PLC products
AutomationDirect PLC CAD drawings are now available on the Thomas Register PartSpec Version 5.5 CD Set, or online at www.cadregister.com . Using this system, there is nothing to download - just select the drawing you would like to use, and the PartSpec system takes care of the direct insert. These drawings can also be accessed at on our Web site at http://support.automationdirect.com/docs/drawings.html.
Competitor cross-reference charts are available on our Web site for inductive proximity sensors, Cutler-Hammer 22mm pushbuttons, and Dinnectors. The cross-reference charts can be accessed from each product's "Product Information Page" or from the top level of the Online Store product categories. Click "Product Information" on the AutomationDirect home page, then select the product you would like to cross-reference. Under "Product Links" on the right-hand side of the page, you will see a link to the product's competitor cross-reference. Cross-references for the DL305 PLC parts to their former lives as the GE series One and TI/Simatic 305, can be performed by typing the part number you would like to cross-reference in the Site Search box (NOT the Store Search box). The search results will appear and will include a link to the part number's cross-reference chart.

Application of the month: DL250 weighs and moves boxes in automatic weigh packing system
Products Used: DL250
Description: I used a DL250 and an F2-04AD-2 analog input module card controls a completely automatic weigh packing system. This system is the final point of our work cells. The A-D card is coupled to a load cell via an amplifier to perform the weighing. Linear cylinders index the empty boxes onto the weigh platform where the box is filled. After filling, the box is moved to an elevator to raise the box to proper work height. Then the box is coded and moved onto a holding conveyor. The system had to be very cost effective to work. I sourced all I could from AutomationDirect to get the best value on electrical and electronic parts.

Question of the month: How can I override inputs and outputs in my DL205?
Answer: The D2-240 and D2-250 CPUs support bit override. To set the bit override option go to VIEW>OPTIONS in the DirectSOFT menu bar. Go to the Data View tab and check Bit Override. From DEBUG>DATA VIEW>NEW/OPEN you can then select whether the particular bit can be (forced) overridden. If you have turned bit override on for that element then you can use the on/off button to force the element. REMEMBER: If you leave an override bit enabled and return the machine to service, it is still in the bit override mode. Be sure to turn override bits off before returning the PLC to service. The D2-230 does not support override. You can turn bits on or off with Data View for a single scan to trigger events, but the PLC will update the image register on the next scan. The inputs will reflect their actual state and the outputs will be the result of the rung that controls them. You can control outputs by loading a program that consists of an END statement only. From DEBUG>DATA VIEW>NEW/OPEN you can then select the particular bit and use the on/off button to control the element. You cannot control inputs.
