Our new Volume 9 catalog will be shipping this month! If you are a current customer or you requested/received a catalog in the past 18 months, you will automatically receive our new 2004 catalog, which now features over 5,000 products. If you’ve never received a catalog and would like one, head to our Web site or call 1-800-633-0405.
Two important changes to note: A new shipping policy, (effective June 1, 2004), will simplify shipping charges by applying a flat fee based on order value, and offers FREE ground shipping in the continental U.S. on all orders over $300 (phone, fax, or online). (Some rules and restrictions apply, see our Web site for details.) Also, due to our increased cost of doing business, we will be implementing some price changes effective June 1. There will be price increases for products where necessary, and we'll be passing on savings and lowering prices where we are able.
As always, we welcome your comments. Contact us at email@example.com if you've got comments or suggestions concerning this newsletter.

data historian, MES or ERP software package that includes an OPC client driver
can connect directly to DirectLOGIC PLC serial or Ethernet ports. The KEPDirect
for PLCs Server provides an interface to DirectLOGIC PLCs using industry-standard
OPC (OLE for process control), so you are free to choose almost any software
package. Packages available include one to support up to 3 nodes, one to support
up to 7 nodes and one to support 8 or more nodes. Prices start at $295.
Wire duct and accessories added to product offering
has added a line of wiring
duct and associated accessories. Rigid PVC wiring duct features a wide finger
design that provides greater rigidity and larger slot width. A non-slip flush
cover (included) holds 10-12% more wires than traditional designs. White or
grey rigid wiring duct is available in 2-meter lengths with dimensions from
.5 x .625 to 6 x 4 inches bundled in packages of 1-24, including the duct cover.
Individual piece prices start at $9. Flexible wiring duct is ideal for wiring
to cabinet doors. It can be easily bent and twisted without breaking and allows
individual wires to be added or removed for applications that require frequent
access to wiring. Flexible wiring duct is available in grey or white and in
20-inch lengths with dimensions from .5 x .5 to 1.5 x 1.5 inches. Packages of
20, 36, 42, or 64 pieces are available, with prices starting at $134.25. Completing
the line are replacement wiring duct covers and associated accessories, including
duct separators, wire retainers, identification tags, mounting inserts, rivets
and rivet tools, spiral wrap and braided sleeving.
Radio modem line now available
and Cirronet™ Inc., have teamed up to offer Cirronet’s wireless
radio modems. Two series of modems are available: The CR-HN series are versatile,
2.4 GHz FHSS wireless data modems. CR-HN radios are ideal for SCADA applications
(as remote modems in multipoint configurations) and are a cost-effective solution
for point-to-point installations. CR-HN modems start at $595. CR-SE series Ethernet
radios are based on the same patented technology as the CR-HN serial radios.
They provide long-range, high-speed wireless connectivity among Ethernet devices
in industrial settings. Typical CR-SE applications include wireless industrial
automation and data collection, network bridging, PLC networking and SCADA.
CR-SE modems start at $1,195.
New option modules available for DL05/06
Two new option modules have been added to the DL05/DL06 lines of PLCs. An 8-point AC input module offers an input voltage range of 80-132 VAC and 90-150 VDC. It is priced at $47. A 4-point isolated relay output module, priced at $49, features 5-30 VDC and 5-125 VAC.

Supplementary protector line now offered
is now offering Cutler-Hammer supplementary
circuit protectors by Eaton Electrical. The WMS Series protectors are DIN-rail
mountable and come in one- and three-pole configurations. They are available
in two trip curves: the B-curve trips at three to five times the rated current
and is typically used for low inrush type loads. The D-curve trips at 10 to
20 times the rated current for higher inrush inductive loads like transformers
and motors. The WMS Series protectors are priced at $7 for a single-pole device,
regardless of current rating or trip curve. The triple-pole devices are priced
New solid-state relays added to product offering
AutomationDirect is now offering several new solid-state and cube relays, ranging in price from $4.75 to $41.00. Solid-state relays are available in 10 or 25 A DIN-rail mountable or 4 A plug-in models. A Tour of AutomationDirect Tech Support
Over the past few years, AutomationDirect has been named number one in support by Control Design magazine readers for PLC hardware and software. And, year after year, our own customers consistently rate us as the best in support. This acclaim didn’t happen by accident. Our focus on tech support has been one of our top concerns since we established the company as PLCDirect ten years ago. But tech support doesn’t always come in the form of phone support. We are continually developing our Web site to assist in answering questions and being a resource for technical information. While you are always welcome to call tech support, here are a few other options for finding technical and application information quickly:
Our Frequently Asked Questions database grows every day. We’ve organized the database by product category to help make it easy to find information on specific products. While in the database, you can press "Ctrl+F" to search for specific words. This can be a fast, easy way to find answers to common questions.
Technical and Application Notes
This database is also arranged by product category and can also be searched using "Ctrl+F". The database contains information such as cross-reference tables, application tips, wiring diagrams and more. There are also several animated tutorials available through the database.
These programs are provided as examples of how to apply the various instructions in our PLCs. The examples are tested in our own lab, and include information such as programs to adjust a PLC clock, examples of how to use pointers, CTRIO programming examples for pulse output functions, and much more.
Customers often send us application stories to post on our Web site. Oftentimes, these can be helpful to customers with similar applications. We are always accepting new stories, so visit our application story page to read through the stories, or submit one of your own. Every customer who has an application story posted on our Web site receives a $50 credit. We also offer $500 credits to customers who assist us in developing a full-length story to be submitted for publication in a trade journal.
Our customer forums have become very popular over the last few years. The forums offer a place to ask application questions, or offer application help to fellow customers. We have a general application forum, as well as specific forums for drives and communication applications.
Documents and Downloads
(various categories on http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/TechHome/TechHome)
Our Web site also provides a fast way to download documents such as installation instructions, user manuals, CAD drawings, etc., as well as software and firmware upgrade downloads. We also offer free demos of many of our software programs.
That's just scratching the surface of what’s available on our Tech Support
home page. Visit our
Tech Support page to see all the tech support information we have available.
And, as always, if you have any questions that can’t be answered by the
information you find there or you’d just rather speak to a real person,
call us at 770-844-4200 .

Application of the month: D2-260 replaces old controls to keep newspaper press running
Products used: D2-260 with Ethernet card
Description: We removed the old controls and installed new DC drives at a newspaper press that includes nine units, plus a folder. We then installed a "master" D2-260 PLC with Ethernet for communicating with remote I/O in the press units. The drives and PLC communicate with the maintenance computer for troubleshooting locally and remotely. The entire press was retrofitted without the newspaper ever losing one production run and customer downtime losses went from about a week per month to no losses in 6 months. The system has paid for itself.
